UTICA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Women's Basketball team overcame an eight-point halftime time deficit to pick up the conference victory in overtime over Coahoma CC, 60-56, inside J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start in the opening 10 minutes of play as the Lady Tigers held the three-point advantage going into the second quarter of play. In the second quarter, Coahoma outscored Hinds 15-10 as the visitors led 30-22 at the halftime break.
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tigers exchanged baskets for the majority of the third quarter, but Coahoma still led 45-36 going into the final 10 minutes of regulation. Hinds shut down Coahoma in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Lady Tigers 11-2 to tie the ballgame up at 47 at the end of regulation. After late turnovers that the Lady Bulldogs took advantage of in the final minute of the overtime period, Hinds went on to defeat Coahoma 60-56 to pick up their second conference victory on the season.
Jaydia Morris led all scorers with 17 points and went 7-11 from the floor, while
Lamaria Jones tallied 16 points in the contest.
Jayiah Ransom posted 13 points in the win, while
Tra'Shaylah Wilson finished the contest with 11 points and was 7-8 from the charity stripe. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was
Taniah Parker with two points and
Brooklyn Harris with one point.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, February 5 against East Central CC in Decatur. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
