RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College softball team ran its current winning streak to six games after a doubleheader sweep over Northeast Mississippi Community College on Saturday afternoon at Rene T. Warren Field.
The Lady Eagles picked up the 13-5 run-rule victory in five innings in game one of the doubleheader and downed the Lady Tigers in the nightcap 4-2 to grab the sweep over NEMCC.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Hinds plated four runs to take the 4-0 lead after one inning of play. The visitors picked their run of the contest in the top of the second inning to cut the lead to three runs after two complete innings. The Lady Tigers grabbed four runs in the top of the third inning to take the lead, but the Lady Eagles caught an offensive spark and posted a five-run frame to take the 9-5 lead into the fourth inning. After a scoreless fourth inning, Hinds slammed the door on the Lady Tigers and plated four runs in the fifth inning as they picked up 13-5 run rule victory in game one.
Every Lady Eagle in the lineup grabbed at least one hit in the game.
Ellie Williamson led Hinds with two hits and three RBI in the contest.
Melissa Lopera,
Mackenzie Kelly, and
Lily Ochodnicky all posted two hits in the contest and two RBI to grab the first victory of the day.
Emily Vicknair got the win in the circle in relief for the Lady Eagles.
In the nightcap, the Lady Tigers picked up the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Eagles responded with a run of their own to even the contest up at one after one inning. A pitcher's duel broke up for the next three innings as either team could grab a run.
Lily Ochodnicky belted an RBI-double to right center to break the scoring drought in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Lady Eagles took the 2-1 advantage. Hinds picked up two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 4-1. Northeast scored the last of the ballgame in the top of the seventh inning, but the Lady Eagles sealed the 4-2 victory and grabbed the doubleheader sweep.
Taylor Nelson led the Lady Eagles with two hits and scored a run in the contest.
Mackenzie Kelly and
Lily Ochodnicky captured the only RBIs for Hinds in the contest.
Emily Vines got the start in the circle for the Lady Eagles and went the distance. The freshman only allowed five hits and struck out four batters to grab her sixth win in the circle for Hinds.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, April 9th against Southwest Mississippi CC at Rene T. Warren Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 PM.
