Football Falls at Home to East Central CC

RAYMOND, Miss. - The Hinds Community College Football team falls 42-13 at Joe Renfroe Stadium to the East Central Community College Warriors.

On the Warriors opening drive of the game, EC used seven plays to go 55 yards and took 2:42 off of the clock to take a 7-0 advantage with 10:04 remaining in the first quarter. It was a back-and-forth first quarter as both defenses played strong. Hinds got on the board with 2:05 left in the first quarter when Tanner Hollingsworth drilled a 27-yard field goal to get Hinds on the scoreboard.

Hinds took the lead from the Warriors at the 9:31 mark of the second quarter when Jabari Watson found TD Vaughn in the endzone to bring the score to 10-7. Once again the defenses on both side played well for the majority of the second quarter, but the Eagles' defense slipped up allowing a Warrior touchdown just before the halftime break. The Warriors took the 14-10 lead going into halftime.

The Warrriors came out firing on all cylinders in the third quarter as they scored two touchdowns and held Hinds to no points to take the 28-10 lead into the fourth quarter. The Warriors extended the lead to 35-10 with 10:09 left in the contest. Tanner Hollingsworth kicked a season long 41 yard field goal to cut into the lead. The Warriors punched another touchdown into the endzone late in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 42-13.

Offensively, Jabari Watson led the Eagles going 13-24 through the air for 103 yards and a touchdown. Ja'Marion Johnson led the rushing attack with eight carries for 38 yards, while Tyrell Pollard led the receiving corps with three receptions for 50 yards.

Defensively, Preston Clendenin totaled eight tackles, while William Harry finished the contest with seven tackles. Tanner Hollingsworth was in charge of the punting and kicking duties for the Eagles and finished the night with seven punts for 240 yards and dropped one inside the 20-yard line. Additionally, he was 1-1 on PAT's and 2-2 on field goals.

Hinds will have a bye week on October 4th, but will return to action on October 11th when we host Jones College for our annual Pink Out Night. Kickoff at Joe Renfrow Stadium is set for 6:30 PM.
