UTICA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Women's Basketball team picked up an impressive 64-62 victory over the East Central CC Lady Warriors inside J.D. Boyd Gymnasium on Monday.
Hinds went on a 9-2 run in the opening four minutes of play and continued to pour on the points to take the 19-14 advantage after the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs scored 19 more points in second frame to bring the score to 38-26 going into the halftime break.
The Lady Warriors made the right adjustments coming out of the break and outscore Hinds 18-2, but the Lady Bulldogs still held the six-point advantage going into the final frame. EC's offense continued to shine as they took the lead from Hinds with five minutes to go in regulation. Hinds quickly regained the lead, and the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Warriors exchanged scores and possessions as Hinds went on to take the 64-62 victory when the buzzer sounded.
Lamaria Jones led Hinds with 16 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win over ECCC. Additionally, she shot 50% from the field and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Jaydia Morris had a season-high of 14 points and shot 70% from inside the arc, while
Myan Bartholemycollected 11 points in the win.
Hinds will return to action on Monday, February 3rd when we travel to Fulton to take on the Itawamba CC Lady Indians. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
