RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College football team dominated Pearl River Community College, earning a decisive 56-13 victory Thursday night.
The Eagles came out firing early, striking just 14 seconds into the game when
Miles Adams intercepted a pass and returned it 24 yards for the opening touchdown. Quarterback
Jaylon Ruffin extended the lead with a one-yard scoring run midway through the first quarter, putting Hinds ahead 14-0.
Pearl River responded with a touchdown late in the quarter, but Hinds' defense quickly took control.
Kaleb Washington turned in a monster performance with back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns (one from 73 yards and another from 72) giving the Eagles a commanding 35-6 advantage before halftime.
Special teams added to the fireworks in the opening kick of the third quarter when
DJ Miller took a 98-yard kickoff return in for a touchdown, stretching the lead to 42-6. Ruffin continued his steady play under center, punching in his third rushing touchdown of the night from one yard out later in the third quarter.
In the final frame,
Marvin Moore capped off the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run, sealing the 56-13 victory.
Jaylon Ruffin led the way offensively, completing 14-of-20 passes for 132 yards while adding 59 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground in a dominant team effort.
Julius Bradley contributed 64 rushing yards, while B.J. Blake added 51 on just five carries.
Marvin Moore also found the end zone, rushing for 46 yards and a score. Through the air,
Detraun Brown led all receivers with four catches for 35 yards, while
Braishun Forbes added a 32-yard reception.
As a team, Hinds tallied 63 total tackles, with 53 solo and 10 assisted.
Jeremiah James led the way with six solo stops and a tackle for loss, while
Kevin Beckham followed with seven total tackles. The unit combined for seven tackles for loss amounting to 19 yards, highlighted by strong efforts from
RJ Hall,
Clifton Jobe, and
Trevionn Morton.
Kaleb Washington posted two interceptions returned for touhdowns, and
Miles Adams added another pick for 24 yards. The defense also contributed one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup, and a blocked kick.
Ryan Harvey handled the kicking duties for Hinds, averaging 31 yards on two punts and 53.1 yards on nine kickoffs. Dj Miller sparked the Eagles in the second half with a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown, while
Jaiden Turnipseed added 22 yards on his return. Defensively,
Kaleb Washington dominated with two interceptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns, and
Miles Adams contributed another interception for 24 yards and a score.
HInds will return to action on Thursday, October 30th for our annual "Pink Out" game against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The game will be intense with the winner earning the second playoff spot in the south division. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
