DECATUR, Miss – The Hinds Community College football team delivered a commanding performance against East Central Community College, cruising to a 48-2 victory at Warrior Field. From the opening whistle, Hinds put on a dominant performance, with quarterback
Jaylon Ruffin connecting early with
Braishun Forbes for a 23-yard touchdown for the early 7-0 lead.
Ruffin continued his aerial assault, adding another score through the air with a 15-yard strike to
Detraun Brown. Before East Central could settle in, Hinds was up 13-0. A glimmer of hope came for East Central when they blocked an extra point and returned it for two points, marking their only score of the night.
But Hinds responded with relentless pressure.
Geron Johnson barreled his way into the end zone from one yard out, followed by Ruffin's own six-yard touchdown run. By halftime, Hinds led 27-2.
In the second half, the Eagles turned a dominant lead into a full-blown rout. Already up 27-2, Hinds didn't let up. Early in the third quarter,
Julius Bradley punched in a 3-yard touchdown run, capping off a 63-yard drive that ate up over two minutes. The defense continued to shut down East Central, allowing no points and forcing quick possessions.
Later in the quarter, quarterback
Jaylon Ruffin connected on his third touchdown pass of the night, which was a 45-yard bomb to
Detraun Brown that showcased their explosive chemistry. The final blow came in the fourth which was a blocked punt recovered by
Quay Thompson and returned for a touchdown, pushing the score to 48-2, which was the final score.
Hinds delivered a strong offensive showing led by quarterback
Jaylon Ruffin, who went 17-of-19 for 251 yards and three touchdowns.
Julius Bradley paced the ground game with 55 yards and a score, while Ruffin and
Geron Johnson each added rushing touchdowns. Through the air,
Braishun Forbes hauled in 84 yards and a touchdown, and
Detraun Brown added 60 yards with two scores.
The Eagles' defense turned in a strong team effort with 38 total tackles, including 24 solo stops.
Caleb Bryant,
TJ Grant, and
Micah Hampton each recorded sacks, combining for 22 yards lost. Hampton also added a fumble recovery, and
Kaleb Washington secured an interception in the victory over East Central.
Hinds will return to action on Thursday, October 9
th on the road against Jones College. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
