NEW ORLEANS, La. – The USTFCCCA announced its weekly honors on Monday, recognizing the Hinds Community College men's 4x100-meter relay team as NJCAA Division I National Athletes of the Week following a historic performance earlier this month.
The Eagles etched their names into the record books on March 21 at the Belhaven Invitational in Jackson, blazing the track in 38.23 seconds to set a new NJCAA national record in the 4x100-meter relay. The mark shattered the previous record of 38.86, which had stood since 1987 and was set by Odessa College.
The relay consisted of Raheem Pinnock of Linstead, Jamaica, Jayval Wright of Hayes, Jamacia, Robert Turner of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, and Curtis Coleman of Statesboro, Georgia.
Their time of 38.23 seconds not only stands as the fastest 4x100-meter relay ever recorded in NJCAA history, but it also places Hinds tied for No. 10 all-time among collegiate programs across all divisions.
The record-setting run came at the Mississippi College campus and marked one of the most significant performances in program history for the Hinds men's track and field team. The national recognition from the USTFCCCA highlights the quartet as the top performers in NJCAA Division I men's track and field for the week.
Hinds will return to action on Thursday, April 2nd at the Belhaven Midweek Open on the campus of Belhaven University in Jackson.
