RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up an exciting doubleheader sweep over Northeast Mississippi Community College on April 3, using a historic offensive inning in game one and a dramatic walk-off victory in extra innings in game two.
Game One
Hinds delivered one of its most explosive offensive performances of the season in the opener, erupting for 19 runs in the bottom of the third inning to secure a 24-5 victory.
During the remarkable frame, every batter in the Eagles lineup crossed the plate twice as Hinds turned an early deficit into a commanding lead. The Eagles finished the game with 20 hits and consistently applied pressure throughout the contest.
RJ Brown led the offensive outburst with a huge performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and seven RBI.
Brody Breithaupt added a strong showing, finishing 2-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI, while
Kylan Landers went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI.
Lane Almond collected two hits and scored twice, and
Sam Sheffield contributed two hits and three runs scored as part of the Eagles' balanced offensive attack.
On the mound,
Peyton Beck earned the win after pitching four innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out six.
Jack Grove,
Calvin Robinson, and
Jack Wright combined in relief to close out the victory.
Game Two
The nightcap provided plenty of drama as the Eagles rallied late before walking off Northeast in the eighth inning to complete the sweep.
Hinds jumped out to an early advantage with four runs in the first inning and added another run in the second to build early momentum. Northeast battled back throughout the game and took the lead after scoring five runs in the seventh inning to make it an 8-6 contest.
The Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game and force extra innings, setting up the decisive moment in the eighth.
With runners on base,
AJ Seiter delivered the game-winning two-RBI single to left-center field, sealing the 9-8 walk-off victory for Hinds.
Brody Breithaupt continued his strong performance at the plate in game two, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
Ethan Keen and
Cade Fairley each scored two runs, while
Tanner Alhinai added an RBI.
Cooper Loftin earned the win on the mound after recording the final out in relief.
Hinds returns to action Wednesday, April 8, traveling to Decatur to face #4 East Central Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM
