Track & Field Continues Strong Showing on Day Two at NJCAA DI Outdoor Championships

HOBBS, N.M. — The Hinds Community College track and field programs continued to build momentum on Day 2 of the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with multiple athletes advancing to finals and delivering standout performances across the board.

The Eagle men's sprint group set the tone early in the 100-meter dash, as Raheem Pinnock recorded the fastest qualifying time of the day at 9.93 seconds. Teammate Jayval Wright followed closely behind, qualifying third overall with a time of 9.94, giving Hinds two strong contenders heading into the finals.

Wright later returned to the track in the 200-meter dash and posted a time of 19.92 to secure the No. 2 qualifying spot, while Pinnock added another finals appearance with a 20.07 mark.

On the women's side, Caneilia Hope advanced to the 100-meter dash final after clocking 11.42 for a fourth-place qualifying finish. Hope also competed in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 23.39.

In the hurdles, Matthew Sullivan delivered one of the top performances of the day for the Eagle men, qualifying second overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.46. On the women's side, Mikenzy Hodges-Woods advanced in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.66.

The highlight of the day came from the women's 4x400-meter relay team, as Queen Usunobun, Akaree Roberts, Angel Cumberbatch, and Madison Rhodes combined to win their heat in 3:38.18, positioning themselves for a strong finals performance.

Meanwhile, the men's 4x400-meter relay squad of Deshaun Gordon, Craig Carson, Nathanael Abrahams, and Da'Jarian Leonard also turned in a solid effort with a time of 3:09.91 to remain in contention heading into championship Saturday.

With several athletes advancing and momentum continuing to build, the Eagles now turn their focus to finals competition as Championship Saturday approaches.

Championship Saturday is set, and Hinds is in position to make a significant impact.
