POPLARVILLE, Miss. -The Hinds Community College Baseball team kept its postseason hopes alive in convincing fashion Monday afternoon, rolling past the Soutwest Mississippi CC 8–1 in a Region 23 play-in matchup.
Hinds wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead in the first inning and never looking back. The Eagles added insurance runs in the middle innings, including a key three-run surge in the fifth and another in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
At the center of the win was a dominant performance on the mound from Brady Griffin, who delivered a complete-game effort. Griffin scattered six hits while allowing just one run, keeping SMCC off balance all game and sealing the victory with poise.
Offensively, Hinds found production up and down the lineup. Lane Almond led the charge with a strong showing at the plate, driving in four runs, while Brody Breithaupt and Ethan Keen each contributed key hits to keep the pressure on.
Defensively, Hinds remained sharp, turning two double plays and limiting any momentum swings from SMCC.
With the win, Hinds advances to the Region 23 Tournament, where they will face top-seeded Pearl River Wildcats in the opening round of the playoffs on Tuesday, May 5th at 2 PM.
