William Jones

William Jones III is fresh off his 2nd consecutive Pro-Internship/Guest Coach with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts during 2024 training camp, where he worked with the defensive line. In 2023, Jones worked with the Edmonton Elks where he assisted the defensive line and worked with the front office and player personnel department. 

With over 30 years of coaching experience, Jones begins his second year as the Eagles’ defensive line coach and was promoted to General Manager/Director of Player Personnel Strategy and Roster Management on April 1, 2024.

Jones, a Hot Springs, Ark., native, joined the Hinds coaching staff in 2023 season after spending the 2022 season at Holmes Community College as their defensive coordinator and the previous four years at Copiah-Lincoln as their defensive coordinator.  

Before Co-Lin, Jones coached at Shorter University where he served as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator from 2016-2017. In 2013-2015, Jones was the head football coach at Pearl River Community College, where he was the president of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Football Coaches Association in 2015, vice president in 2014 and secretary in 2013. He engineered one of the greatest wins in PRCC History with a victory over National Junior College Athletic Association no.1 Co-Lin in 2015. 

Jones served as assistant athletic director, associate head football coach and defensive coordinator at East Mississippi Community College from 2008-2012. Jones helped the Lions to a state championship in 2009 and 2011 and capped off the 2011 season with a NJCAA national championship.  

Prior to his time in Scooba, Jones was the defensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and academic coordinator at Pearl River where he helped lead the Wildcats to four consecutive MACJC State titles and the 2004 NJCAA National Championship.  

Jones was the recruiting coordinator, pro-scout liaison and linebackers coach from 1995-2000 at Kentucky State University, where they led the National College Athletic Association D-II in total defense in 1995 and pass defense efficiency in 1997. Jones got his start in coaching in 1994 at Grambling State University under legendary coach Eddie Robinson Sr. Grambling won the SWAC Championship and played in the Heritage Bowl.  

Jones also has two NFL Internships tp his credit. In 1999 with the Chicago Bears in the scouting department and in 2006 with the Kansas City Chiefs working with the defensive line.

Jones is a 1990 Louisiana Tech graduate where he earned his bachelor’s degree in life sciences before earning his master’s in Higher Education Administration from the University of Louisville in 1999. He is married to Lovely Vonetta Jones, who, along with his mother Rosemari, is an avid college football fans.
