Micheryln Smith enters her eighth season at the helm of the Lady Bulldogs basketball team. In addition to serving as the head coach she is a full-time instructor in the health, physical education and recreation department.
The Vicksburg native graduated from Vicksburg High School where she lettered in varsity basketball and track. Upon graduating she attended Hinds Community College where she received a basketball scholarship and played for two years.
Smith continued her education at Jackson State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a master of education degree in health, physical education and recreation.
She also worked at JSU, wearing many hats including assistant basketball coach, file clerk and admissions counselor. Upon taking on a new role at Hinds Community College – Utica Campus as a counselor in the talent search department, Smith later became the assistant women’s basketball coach before transitioning into the role as head women’s basketball coach.
Smith currently resides in Clinton with her husband, Kenny, daughters Shekinah and Shemaiah, and stepdaughter Tiffany. She also has three grandchildren.
