Dan Rives is entering his fourth season as the head coach for the Eagles in 2025.
In his previous three seasons, the Eagles have made three consecutive Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) postseason appearances, including two Region XXIII appearances in 2022 and 2024. Hinds has had three National Association of Community and Junior Colleges Association (NJCAA) All-Americans in Vantrel Reed (2022), Dylan Coleman (2023) and Thomas Marsala (2024), as well as Connor Chisolm (2023) being named to The JBB List All-American second team. During these three years, the Eagles have claimed 85 victories.
Rives came to Raymond after a four-year role as the head baseball coach at Mississippi Delta Community College from 2017-2020 and a one-year stint as athletic director and sports information director in 2021.
While in Moorhead, Rives and his staff helped over 40 Trojans move on to the four-year collegiate level, including 16 to the Division I ranks.
Rives, who played at MDCC in 2003 under the legendary Terry Thompson, came back to the Delta after an 11-year stint (2006-2016) at Hinds, where he served as the Eagles recruiting coordinator, worked with the Eagles infielders and headed up the HCC strength and conditioning program.
During his previous time in Raymond, Rives helped lead the Eagles to three MACJC state championships (2010, 2012 and 2015) and one National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) regional championship (2014). It was during this time that the Eagles had over 100 players move on to the four-year or professional ranks, including over 50 student-athletes advancing to the Division I level.
It was also here that he coached the likes of Randy Bell, who was chosen as the 2015 NJCAA Pitcher of the Year after going a perfect 12-0 on the hill, as well as infielders Tyler Akins and Beau Wallace, who were both named to the NJCAA All-American team in 2012. Wallace was also a 12th round selection in the 2013 MLB draft by the Pittsburg Pirates.
Rives also oversaw the development of Travious Relaford, who left Raymond after one season in 2011 after being drafted by the San Francisco Giants. Relaford was voted Best Athlete and Fastest Runner in the Giants organization by Baseball America for the 2011 draft class.
He also served as the sports information director at Hinds, where he oversaw the redesign of the athletic website on three occasions as well as the production of all athletic publications and news releases.
Rives started his collegiate playing career at Delta State University in Cleveland, spending the 2001 and 2002 seasons under one of the most highly-respected baseball minds in the country in Mike Kinnison. It was during these two seasons that the Statesmen compiled records of 50-11 (2001) and 50-8 (2002) and earned berths in the Division II College World Series in Montgomery, Ala.
After transferring to Moorhead for the 2003 season, Rives would move on to Mississippi College in Clinton, where he earned All-American Southwest Conference (ASC) honors as a senior infielder in 2005. He was voted Team MVP by his teammates and coaches at the conclusion of his senior campaign and also obtained All-Academic honors in his junior and senior seasons.
He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Mississippi College in 2005 and later received his Master of Arts degree in social science from MC in 2007.
Rives, a Cleveland native, is married to Andrea, and the couple resides in Clinton. They have two daughters, Madelyn and Meredith, and a son, Luke.
