Men's tennis nears halfway point

The Hinds men's tennis team has nearly reached the halfway point of the 2012 season, and the Eagles currently remain winless at 0-5.

Hinds has dropped matches to Holmes Community College (7-2), Northeast Mississippi Community College (6-3), East Central Community College (6-3), Holmes (7-2) and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (8-1).

In the first match against Holmes, Max Gold of Novosibirsk, Russia, a freshman, picked up a victory in number two singles play. Gold and Yevheniy Horbik of Lutsk, Ukraine, a freshman, also picked up a win in number one doubles play.

Against Northeast, it was the same duo that claimed victories for the Eagles. Horbik won in number one singles play, and Gold won in number two singles play. The duo also combined for a victory in number one doubles play versus the Tigers.

Horbik was a winner in number one singles play against the East Central Warriors, as was Gary Blissard. The freshman from Pearl picked up a victory in number two singles play. Horbik and Blissard shared a victory in number one doubles play as well.

In the second match against Holmes, it was Gold once again grabbing a win in number two singles play. Chris Harper of Collins, a freshman, notched the other win for the Eagles on the day, winning in number five singles play.

Horbik claimed the only victory for Hinds against Gulf Coast, as he won in number one singles play.

The Eagles travel to Wesson today to take on Co-Lin Community College in a 2 p.m. match.
