RAYMOND- The Hinds Community College soccer team fell in a hard fought battle 2-0 against Southwest Community College Tuesday evening at home on Tom Shepherd field to open up the 2017 regular season.
This was just the 2
nd time in 18 seasons under head coach
Doug Williams that Hinds has played SWCC in a regular season bout.
SWCC opened up the scoring in the 30
th minute and followed up with a second goal in the 53
rd minute to seal the victory.
"This was a really competitive, back and forth game between two teams that made the playoffs last year," said Williams. "Whenever you start the season with a lot of new players you're not always sure what to expect, but I was pleased with the way our guys fought all night long."
Freshman,
Drew Shaw (Raymond), led the Eagle's defense by holding SWCC leading scorer from a year ago scoreless.
The Eagles will next play host to Jones County Community College at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25
th at Tom Shepherd field.
