RAYMOND- The Hinds Community College men's soccer team got their first win of the season Friday evening when they beat Jones County Community College 2-1 under the lights at Tom Shepherd Field.
The Eagles opened up the scoring in the 21
st minute when
Ian Clendenin (Cleveland) put one in the back of the net following a shot from
Mohammed Ibrahim (Ridgeland) that ricocheted off of Jones's goal keeper.
Jones would fight back to tie the game in the 58
th minute.
The Eagle offense, however, would not be silenced. On a free kick in the 70
th minute,
Chandler Quintero (Brandon) sent a beautiful cross that would find
Mohammed Ibrahim who headed it past the goal keeper giving the Eagles the lead and their first victory of the season.
"I felt like this was a much better performance than our season opener. Today was definitely a step in the right direction. We need to build off this victory and keep improving each time we take the field," said head coach
Doug Williams.
The Eagles (1-1) will look to continue their winning ways Monday, August 28
th at 7 p.m. when they take on Belhaven University on the road at Belhaven.
