RAYMOND- The men's soccer team has set themselves in familiar territory, on top of the division, after winning two out of their last three games. Both wins came against divisional opponents, while their only loss came from a non-divisional opponent.
Last Tuesday, Sept. 12
th, the Eagles cruised past East Central 5-1.
Mohammed Ibrahim (Ridgeland) opened up the goal scoring party when he put one in the back of the net in the 16
th minute.
Evan Ratcliff (Brandon) joined in a minute later when he found the back of the net in the 17
th minute.
Josh Parron (Brandon),
Joao Pinheiro (Fortaleza, Brazil) and
Rob Lanke (Madison) each added a goal of their own in the second half to put the game away and give the Eagles the victory.
Last Friday, Sept. 15
th, the Eagles continued their offensive hot streak defeating Northwest 5-3. Ibrahim scored two goals while
JP Burke (Brandon),
Ian Clendenin (Cleveland) and
Caleb Pace (Terry) each scored a goal of their own.
Last night, Sept. 20
th, the Eagles fell 2-1 to Pearl River. The game originally scheduled for 7 p.m. did not start until approximately 8:30 p.m. as lightening was detected in the area. Ibrahim scored the Eagles' lone goal which gave them a 1-0 lead going into to halftime. In the second half, Pearl River scored two goals within seventy seconds to seal the victory.
Following last night's loss, Head coach
Doug Williams put things into perspective stating, "Losses are the best opportunity to accurately assess your performance."
The Eagles (4-4) will look to bounce back next Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at home when they take on Mississippi Gulf Coast in a rematch of last year's State Championship game.
