Hinds Soccer shuts out Holmes 5-0

RIDGELAND – The Hinds Eagle men's soccer team put together one of their better overall performances of the season defeating Holmes Community College 5-0 last night (Oct. 3) under the lights at Freedom Ridge Park.

"The defense is playing really well right now. It's always a positive thing when your defense can put together a shutout," said head coach Doug Williams.

The defense is led by its four defenders including Drew Shaw (Raymond), Austin Ramey (Jackson), Daniel Layton (Gulfport), and Gabriel Dos Santos (Brasilia, Brazil).

On top of the stellar defense, the offense strung together five goals. Justin Phipps (Madison), Beau Rimmer (St. Stanislaus), and Felipe Rosado (Fortaleza, Brazil) all scored one goal apiece while Guilherme De Sousa (Fortaleza, Brazil) added two goals of his own.

"There are still three division games left so everything is still wide open as far as the playoffs, but our team is moving in the right direction as we head into the home stretch of the season," said Williams.

With the win the Eagles improved to 5-3 overall on the season and are 3-1 in the North Division which is currently good for second place.

The Eagles will be back in action this Friday, October 5 in Raymond when they take on the MACJC North Division leading Itawamba Community College Indians (9-3, 5-0). The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
