SUMMIT - Hinds Community College men's basketball hit their stride this week, grabbing a 91-72 win over Baton Rouge Community College and a 120-83 victory over Southern University Shreveport.
"We were the only team to finish 2-0 in the classic," head coach
Jonathan Nevol said. "Both Southern Shreveport and Baton Rouge are much better than they have been in the past, so the competition was very fierce."
Against Baton Rouge, the Bulldogs were led by
Jalen Myers (Madison, Ala.), who finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Sophomore guard
Treylan Smith (Petal) continued his successful streak by scoring 19 points and grabbing six boards. Rounding out the top performers in the contest is sophomore guard
Kyle Hayman (Monroe, La.), who scored 16 points and pulled-in three rebounds.
The Bulldogs picked up the pace in their second contest against Souther University Shreveport when their scoring went over the century mark.
Jalen Myers continued to lead the Bulldogs in scoring by cashing in 29 points, 12 boards and 2 blocks. Second in scoring in this game was
Treylan Smith, who scored 17 points and had four rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Jamal Esco (Jackson) with 14 points and five assists, DeAndre Buggage (Gray, La.) with 13 points,
Kyle Hayman with 12 points and four rebounds and
Martarious Burrell (Yazoo City) with 10 points and four assists.
"I am pleased to see the guys starting to play together," Nevol said. "We had our best two offensive games here, so we are getting better game by game."
The Bulldogs are back in action this Thursday when they travel to Scooba to take on East Mississippi Community College. The game is set to tip-off at 6 p.m.
