Box Score POPLARVILLE - Hinds Community College men's basketball moved to 1-1 in conference play after they fell 66-57 on the road at Pearl River Community College Monday evening.
Fresh off their upset of 18
th ranked Northeast Mississippi Community College, the Bulldogs looked to move to 2-0 in conference play. However, the tight contest shifted in favor of the Wildcats in the late minutes.
"This is a very hard and competitive league, and we didn't pull out with the victory at the end," said head coach
Jonathan Nevol. "But, I saw my team grow tonight. We played hard and gave great effort. Pearl River made plays down the stretch to finish the game off."
Leading the scoring for Hinds was sophomore forward
Jalen Myers (Madison, Ala.), who recorded his eighth double-double of the season by finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Treylan Smith (Petal) was second in scoring, cashing in 11 points with five boards.
"We have to be more consistent on offense with sharing the ball," Nevol said. "We have a lot of talent in our locker room, but the talent has to work together to make game winning plays. So, we are still putting the pieces together on that side of the ball. Defensively, we are good so far."
Bulldog basketball returns to the hardwood in the new year when they take on Coahoma Community College on Thursday, Jan. 6. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Earl Joe Nelson Court at Boyd Gymnasium in Utica.
