The Hinds Community College Bulldogs men's basketball team continued its winning ways Thursday night in Perkinston as they completed a season sweep over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Keying a 71-63 triumph over Gulf Coast were sophomore guards Damerius Wash, of Canton, and Jordan Johnson, of Memphis. Wash scored 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Johnson added 12 points and had eight assists. Freshman guard Kyle Hayman, of Monroe, La., grabbed 15 rebounds to pair with 10 points. Sophomore forward Justyn King, of Plant City, Fla., kicked in 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman forward Caleb McCarty, of Biloxi, added 11 points to the final score to go along with six rebounds and three blocked shots.

The win pushed the Bulldogs to 8-1 and enabled the first sweep over Gulf Coast in more than a decade.

"It feels awesome to get back to the winning column," head coach Yusef Fitzgerald said. "Guys played together and we had guys step up and shoulder the load for us, scoring-wise and we played much better defensively. For two straight games, Jordan has been facing a box-and-one defense. We didn't handle it well at Pearl River on Monday, but guys really bought in at practice and figured out how to handle it.

"Gulf Coast plays so hard and they fight until the end, but our guys do, too. That's what I'm most proud of, just a no quit attitude. Any win is huge, but especially a road win." 

The Bulldogs next take the court against East Central Community College on Monday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The game will be livestreamed at https://hindsccsports.net/channel-1/
