RAYMOND – Hinds Community College football fell to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 34-7 in their 2022 home finale.
This game featured a very quiet first quarter, as both teams held each other scoreless by forcing several punts. But the Eagles were driving and in the redzone as the first quarter ended.
At the start of the second quarter, Hinds fumbled, which led to a Gulf Coast score. The made extra point made the score 7-0 with 10:11 left in the first half.
Another Eagle punt led to another Gulf Coast touchdown, and the Bulldogs extended their lead to 14-0 with 5:35 left in the second quarter.
Hinds gave the ball back to the Bulldogs and the Eagle defense forced a big punt. The Bulldog punt would be blocked by
Willie Miller (Brandon) and would be recovered by
Macardi Johnson (Macon). Johnson would take the ball all the way down to the Bulldog one-yard line where
Jeffrey Pittman (Taylorsville) gave the Eagles their only score. The score would be 14-7 with just a couple of minutes left in the first half.
Gulf Coast would then march down the field and score a touchdown with nine seconds left in the half and carry a 21-7 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs would knock through a pair of field goals and score a late touchdown to push their lead to 34-7 and seal the victory.
