Gaudin’s brace pushes Eagles past Meridian at home

10/5/2022 10:17:00 AM

Box Score RAYMOND – Hinds Community College men's soccer picked up their third straight win with a 3-1 home victory over Meridian Community College Tuesday evening behind two goals from Gavin Gaudin (Flowood).

For the third straight game, Sonny Bizure (North Billerica, MA) contributed a goal for the Eagles. Bizure got the scoring started in the seventh minute with a goal that was assisted by Ashton Staton (Starkville).

"I was really pleased with the way we started the game," said head coach Robert Gardner. "It was an excellent goal from Sonny (Bizure) and a very good ball played in for the assist from Ashton (Staton)."

The rest of the first half was scoreless, leaving Hinds with a 1-0 lead at the half.

Sophomore midfielder Gavin Gaudin was the star of the show in the second half when he scored two goals to put the Eagles up 3-0 with less than 10 minutes to play. Gaudin's first goal came about mid-way through the second half when he found the back of the net on a Jovan Mihajlovic (Serbia) assist.

"I thought in the second half we improved, but so did Meridian," said Gardner. "The timing of Gavin's (Gaudin) goal made things really difficult for them which was nice."

The second goal for Gaudin came later in the second half when he scored on a free-kick.

On the defensive side, sophomore keeper Tyler Ivory (Vicksburg) turned away nine shots, which includes a Meridian penalty kick in the dying minutes.

"A special mention is very much deserved for Josh Forsman (Pascagoula)," said Gardner. "This was his first start of the season, and he was incredible in the moment. Also, again, Tyler Ivory was exceptional in goal. He saved a penalty and made several saves throughout the course of the game to preserve what ended up being a comfortable win for us."
