UTICA – The Hinds Community College men's basketball team (10-13, 8-6 conference) has clinched a berth in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference tournament for the second year in a row and will face Northeast Mississippi Community College (19-4, 11-3 conference) Tuesday evening in Poplarville.
The Bulldogs have overcome a slow start to the 2021-2022 campaign, winning six of their last eight games to close out the regular season.
First year head coach
Jonathan Nevol is ready for the opportunity to compete for a conference championship.
"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to compete at the state tournament," Nevol said. "Competing for a postseason championship has always been our goal as a program, so we're blessed for the opportunity."
Last meeting
The Bulldogs won big over Northeast 82-70 during their December 2 meeting in Utica. This win over the eighteenth ranked Tigers would be one of two top-20 wins on the season for Nevol and company.
Top scorers
Northeast is led in scoring by Kylan Blackmon, who is averaging 16.9 points per game for the Tigers.
Sophomore forward
Jalen Myers (Madison, Ala.) leads the Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 20 points per game. Myers also has recorded a whopping 18 double-doubles on the season.
