RAYMOND – Hinds Community College baseball split with Jones College Tuesday evening behind an extra-inning walk-off double by
Gavin Mink (Olive Branch) in game two.
The Bobcats of Jones used a six-run second inning to take game one 7-3. Mink's double secured the 2-1 victory in game two.
Game one
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a
Vantrel Reed (Vicksburg) RBI single that scored
Justin Williams (Madison).
Jones would then score six runs in the top of the second to take a 6-1 lead. The Bobcats would eventually grab another run in the sixth, which would be all the runs they needed to take game one.
Hinds got two more runs in the seventh inning to cut into the lead on two walks by
Clay Benson (Monroe, La.) and Reed.
Getting the start on the mound in game one was
Holland Townes (Ridgeland), who exited after 4.2 innings of work. Townes struck out four and scattered five hits. Holland gave way to
Mayson Shealy (Vicksburg) and
Nasson Rodriguez (Madison), who both contributed two innings a piece.
Game two
Jones struck first and scored their only run of the game in the first inning. Starting pitcher
Connor Nation (Madison) had another seven-inning performance, striking out six and giving up only three hits in the contest.
Kendrick Bershell (Vicksburg) threw the final inning for the Eagles.
The Eagle bats were stifled for a large part of game two. Hinds would get their first run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when
Connor Chisolm (Madison) scored on a wild pitch.
The deciding run came off the bat of Mink, who walked the game off in the bottom of the eighth inning.
