PERKINSTON, Miss. – The Hinds Community College football team was beaten by #6 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 41-0 on Saturday afternoon at A.L. May Memorial Stadium.
Both teams played great defense in the opening half as the Bulldogs scored a field goal in the first quarter and a field goal in the second quarter to end the first half with a 6-0 advantage.
The hosts led 6-0 going into the half but Hinds was unable to flip the script in the second half as the Bulldogs scored 35 points in the second half to seal the 41-0 victory over the Hinds Eagles.
As an offense the Eagles struggled to get thing going as they totaled 109 yards of total offense and picked up eight first downs on 50 offensive snaps. Most of the yardage were rushing yards as the Eagles totaled 98 rushing yards and 11 passing yards in the contest.
On offense,
Roman Mula finished with one pass completion for 11 yards and an interception.
Ja'Marian Johnson led the rushing attack with 11 carries for 44 yards for an average of 4.0 yards per carry.
Jerrell Boyd finished the day with 33 rushing yards and 94 yards on kickoff returns to average 18.8 yards per return.
Defensively,
Vernorrius Chaney led the Eagles' defense with nine total tackles and one pass break up, while
Zack Andrews finished the game with eight total tackles. Xy'Narus Haynes had one sack in the game and had the only forced fumble in the contest.
The Eagles will return to action at Joe Renfroe Stadium at Gene Murphy Field on Thursday, November 2 against the Co-Lin Wolves for Sophomore Day. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
