Herbison Throws a Complete Game Shut Out; Eagles Split Saturday’s Doubleheader

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team split the weekend doubleheader with Co-Lin Community College and #9 ranked Meridian Community College on Saturday at Joe G. Moss Field. 
 
GAME ONE
 
Dylan Coleman opened the scoring for the Eagles with a solo shot to right field as Hinds took the quick 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless second and third inning, Clay Benson and Cameron Hill hit back-to-back homeruns to extend the Eagle's lead to 3-0. In the same inning, Tyler Janos came through with an RBI-Double to center field that scored Cole Smith in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
After a three up three down fifth inning, Connor Chisolm lined an RBI-Single to right field and Chisolm came around and scored on a wild pitch in the same inning as the Eagles took a 6-0 advantage. Evan McCarthy scored the final run of the contest from a double to left field that scored two runs for the Eagles. Hinds went on to secure the 8-0 shutout victory over the Wolves.

 
Ryan Herbison went the distance on the mound for the Eagles tossing 7.0 complete innings and only gave up three hits in the contest. Additionally, he faced 23 batters and registered five strikeouts. 
 
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Tyler Janos who went 2-3 from the plate and posted two doubles in the contest. As a team, the Eagles registered eight hits, eight runs, and seven RBI in the game.
 
GAME TWO
 
The visitors scored six runs in the first two innings to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Eagles cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second inning when Cole Smith and Dylan Coleman hit RBI-Singles and Connor Chisolm was walked in by the Meridian pitching staff. Meridian led Hinds 6-3 after two complete innings.
 
Meridian plated a run in the fourth and sixth inning to extend their lead to 8-3 after six complete innings. Cole Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Dylan Coleman, Meridian went on to secure the 8-4 victory over Hinds. 
 
Lincoln Sheffield took the loss on the mound for the Eagles but had two strikeouts in the game. Owen Hendry came in to relieve Sheffield and struck out six batters through 1.2 innings pitched but had to leave the game due to injury. Brady Boykin came in and threw 3.2 innings and totaled three stakeouts. 
 
Cole Smith led the Eagles going 3-3 from the plate and totaling two RBI. Dylan Colman hit 2-4 for the Eagles and collected an RBI. As a team, Hinds had eight hits and scored four runs in the contest. 

 
UP NEXT
 
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, March 1st for a doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi Community College and Copiah Lincoln Community College in Summit. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM with the second game to follow at 3:00 PM.
