Eagles Split Doubleheader with #13 Jones College

ELLISVILLE, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team split their doubleheader against #13 Jones College in the MACCC Road Opener. The Eagles took the nine-inning contest 8-2, but the Bobcats bounced back with an 11-0 victory over the Eagles in game two. With the split, the Eagles improve to 14-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play. 
 
GAME ONE
 
Ashton Johnson scored the first run of the contest from a wild pitch to make the score 1-0 early in the first inning. With the bases loaded in the same inning, Cameron Hill smashed a Grand Slam to left field as the Eagles took a 5-0 advantage after one inning. 
 
Jones scored their only two runs of the contest off a two-run homerun in the second inning, but Hinds held on to the 5-2 lead. After a scoreless third inning, Tom Lee hit an RBI-Double down the left field line that scored Cole Thompson to extend the Eagles lead to 6-2.
 
The Eagles and Bobcats were held scoreless in the fifth and sixth, but the Eagles called for the double steal and Ashton Johnson stole home to plate another run for Hinds in the top of the seventh inning. Cole Smith tacked on the final run of the game, hitting a solo homerun to left field as the Eagles went on to take the game 8-2 in nine innings. 

 
Ashton Johnson, Connor Chisolm, and Dylan Coleman all had multiple hits for the Eagles, however, the biggest hit of the contest was the Grand Slam from Cameron Hill early in the contest. Cole Smith earned the other RBI in the game from the homerun in the eighth inning. 
 
Lincoln Sheffield got the start on the mound in game one and tossed six innings to pick up his third win of the season. Sheffield only gave up one run in the game and struck out six batters. Alex McGarrh came in relief for Sheffield and tallied his second save on the season. McGarrh shut down the Bobcats in the final three innings only giving up one hit and posted two strikeouts. 
 
GAME TWO 
 
In game two of the doubleheader, the Bobcats bounced back big to grab the shutout victory over the Eagles. Drew Druckenmiller pitched a complete game shutout for the Bobcats and was flawless as he struck out 11 Eagles in the contest. 
 
Ryan Herbison got the start on the mound for the Eagles and pitched 4.2 innings in the loss. Dylan Coleman and Evan McCarthy posted the only hits for the Eagles in the game.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Eagles will remain on the road for a doubleheader with Coahoma Community College on Saturday, March 18th in Clarksdale, Miss. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
