Chisolm’s Walk-Off Homerun Lifts Eagles Past Southwest; Falls in Nightcap to #1 PRCC

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – The Hinds Community College baseball team returned to the diamond on Tuesday and picked up a 7-6 victory over Southwest Mississippi Community College but fell in the nightcap to No. 1 ranked Pearl River Community College 6-2. The Eagles move to 12-7 overall with conference play beginning on Saturday afternoon. 
 
GAME ONE
 
Ashton Johnson scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning from a wild pitch to give the Eagles the 1-0 advantage. In the same inning, Dylan Coleman belted a two-run homer to left field as Hinds took the 3-0 lead after one inning complete. Southwest scratched across their first run of the game in the top of the second inning to make the score 3-1. 
 
First baseman Clay Benson hit a shot to centerfield to extend the Eagles lead to 5-1 after three complete innings. The visitor's cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning after scoring three runs. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Bears tied the ball game in the sixth inning going into the final inning of the game. 
 
In the top of the seventh, Southwest took the 6-5 advantage, but the Eagles responded in the bottom of the seventh after Connor Chisolm hit the Walk-off homerun as the Eagles secured the 7-6 victory over Southwest. 
 
Lincoln Sheffield got the start on the mound for the Eagles and went 5.2 innings and registered three strikeouts. John David Gunn came in relief and earned his second win of the season after pitching 1.1 innings. 
 
Connor Chisolm, Dylan Coleman, and Clay Benson registered the only hits of the contest, which all three hits were homeruns. 
 
GAME TWO
 
The Wildcats held the Eagles scoreless until the top of the sixth when Tyler Janos hit a sacrifice fly that scored Dylan Coleman as PRCC led 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The hosts hit a two-run homer to extend their lead to 4-1
 
Dylan Coleman registered his second homerun of the day to cut into the Wildcats lead in the top of the seventh. The Wildcats responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame to take a 5-2 advantage. PRCC scored one more run in the game in the bottom of the eighth to capture the 6-2 victory over the Eagles. 
 
Ryan Herbison got the start on the bump for the Eagles and had a great outing tossing 5.0 innings and posted nine strikeouts. Brady Boykin came in relief and finished the contest on the mound. Boykin only gave up one hit through three innings and had four total strikeouts. 

Offensively, Connor Chisolm led the Eagles going 3-for-5 from the plate and registered a double in the game. Dylan Coleman had two hits, one run scored, and registered an RBI in the contest. Cameron Hill was the other Eagle to receive multiple hits in the game for the Eagles. Ashton Jonson, Cole Smith, Tyler Janos all posted a hit for the Eagles in the contest. 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Eagles will return to the field on Saturday, March 11 against East Mississippi Community College to open up MACCC play at Joe G. Moss Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 PM.
