Eagles Offense Explodes in Doubleheader Sweep of Mississippi Delta

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team took both ends of the doubleheader in their doubleheader sweep against Mississippi Delta Community College. The Eagles knocked off the Trojans 11-5 in game one before posting a 11-3 win in the second game.
 
GAME ONE
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Eagles scored the first run of the contest from a RBI groundout by Tyler Janos to make the score 1-0. The visitors scored four runs in the top of the second and to take a 4-1 lead after two complete innings. 
 
The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to level the contest at 4. Hinds continued to pour on the runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring the score to 9-4. Delta scored their final run of the contest in the top of the fifth inning grab a run back from the Eagles. 
 
Dylan Coleman made the score 10-5 after hitting a solo homerun to left field. After a scoreless seventh inning, Clay Benson scored the final run of the game from a wild pitch to secure the 11-5 win over the Trojans.
 
Connor Chisolm led the offense going 4-5 from the plate with three runs scored and one RBI. Dylan Coleman hit .500 in the game after posting two hits and scoring three runs in the contest. Ashton Johnson was the other Eagle to have a multi-hit game and scored one run in the win. 
 
Matthew Azordegan earned the start and the win on the mound for the Eagles in game one. Matthew tossed 5.0 innings, gave up six hits, and totaled six strikeouts. John David Gunn came in relief for Azordegan and faced 13 batters. Additionally, he gave up only two hits across four innings and tallied two strikeouts to earn the save. 
 
GAME TWO
 
The Eagles' offense put up historic numbers hitting five homeruns in the seven-inning contest. Hinds controlled the game from the first pitch as the Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning from a three-run homer from Evan McCarthy to take a 3-0 advantage.
 
The visitors scored their only three runs of the game in the top of the fourth the even the contest up at 3. Evan McCarthy hit his second homerun of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Eagles regained the 4-3 advantage. Tom Lee hit his first home run on the season to extend the Eagles lead to 6-3. 
 
Dylan Coleman and Connor Chisolm both hit a homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning, while Ashton Johnson hit an RBI-double to push the lead to 11-3 after five innings. Neither team scored for the rest of the contest as the Eagles secured the 11-3 victory and earn the doubleheader sweep over the Trojans. 
 
As a team, the Eagles racked up 11 hits, scored 11 runs, and totaled 11 RBI in the back end of the doubleheader. Evan McCarthy led Hinds going 2-3 from the plate and tallied four RBI. Additionally, he had a multi-homerun game for his first on the season. 
 
Connor Nation got the start on the mound and went the distance for the Eagles to earn his second win on the season. Nation tossed 7.0 innings, earned six strikeouts, and did not give up an earned run in the game. 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, April 18 against the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs in Perkinston, MS. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM.
