RAYMOND, Miss. - The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up two key victories against Copiah-Lincoln Community College at Joe G. Moss Field on Monday. The Eagles run-ruled the Wolves 11-1 in game one and earned the 5-3 win in game two to pick up the conference sweep.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless first and second inning, Clay Benson scored the first run of the contest from an RBI-single that made the score 1-0. In the same inning, Dylan Coleman belted a three-run homer to left field to extend the lead to 4-0 going into the fourth inning.
The Eagles offense continued to produce runs as Cameron Hill lined a single to left field to bring the score to 6-0. The visitors scored their first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning, but the Eagles score five runs in the bottom of the frame via a two-RBI single by Connor Chisolm, RBI-single by Clay Benson, and Dylan Coleman hit his second homerun of the day. The Eagles held strong for the rest of the contest to pick up the 11-1 run-rule victory.
Dylan Coleman led the Eagles going 3-4 at the plate and totaled five RBI. Clay Benson also went 3-4 from the plate and tallied two RBI. Cameron Hill and Connor Chisolm were the other two Eagles to have multiple hits in the contest. Asa team, Hinds scored 11 runs on 14 hits and did not commit an error in the game.
GAME TWO
Dylan Coleman scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning from an RBI-double that scored Connor Chisolm to give Hinds the early advantage.
After a scoreless second inning, the visitors scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take the 3-1 lead. Nothing was going for either side in the fourth inning, but the Eagles scored four runs in the fifth to take the 5-3 advantage. Clay Benson reached on an error but scored Tyler Janos and Ashton Jonson, while Connor Chisolm scored on wild pitch, and Cameron Hill hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Clay Benson came around to score. The Eagles and Wolves did not score a run in the final two frames as the Eagles earned the 5-3 victory and the doubleheader sweep over Copiah-Lincoln.
Dylan Coleman was the only Eagle to have multiple hits in the contest as he went 2-2 from the plate and tallied an RBI. Tyler Janos, Ashton Johnson, and Connor Chisolm all registered a hit in the game to help lead the Eagles to victory.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will return to action on Friday, April 28 against Holmes Community College at Joe G. Moss Field. Hinds Baseball will honor 11 athletes before the doubleheader for Sophomore Day. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
