Men’s Tennis Competes Well at NJCAA D1 Men’s Tennis Nationals

MCKINNEY, Texas – The Hinds Community College Men's Tennis team made a solid run in the NJCAA D1 Men's Tennis Nationals. Cameron Courtney, Tahir Elzare, Reese Harper, Dalton Jones, Fabian Juarez, All-MACCC member Jacob Runnels, and Colby Williamson all competed in the Nationals. 
 
Tahir Elzare led the Eagles competing in eight matches and went 4-4 during Nationals. Tahir opened his tournament with a loss to Cam'Ron Crenshaw 6-1,6-2 to move to the consolation side of the bracket. Elzare won two matches in consolation play before falling in the consolation semifinals on Thursday. In doubles play, he made it to the Consolation Semifinal, but fell 8-5
 
Jacob Runnels started out the Nationals strong with a 6-0,6-0 win over Carel Van Der Maraw to advance to the next round but came up short in the second round. Runnels and Elzare came up short in Flight 3 doubles but made a run in the consolation side of the bracket and would eventually fall in the Consolation Doubles semifinals. 
 
Cameron Courtney had a rocky start to begin his Nationals journey but finished the tournament 3-3. In singles play, Courtney made it all the way to the Consolation Semifinals and went 1-1 in doubles play. 
 
Fabian Juarez won his first match in flight 1 singles, but would eventually fall to conference foe Sebastian Hernandez (Meridian) in the second round 6-4, 6-2. Juarez also won his first doubles match 6-2, 6-0, but fell in the second round to finish the tournament 2-2. 
 
Colby Williamson finished the national with a 1-2 record with a. win in the consolation round of 16, but would go on to fall in the consolation quarterfinal. 
 
Reese Harper and Dalton Jones competed in six matches collectively, but could not pick up a win in the 2023 Nationals.
