BATON ROUGE, La. – The Hinds Community College Softball team split their doubleheader against Baton Rouge CC with a 7-2 win in the first game of the day and a 3-2 loss in the nightcap. With the spilt, the Lady Eagles improve to 3-3 overall.
GAME ONE
In the first game of the afternoon, Hinds scored first in the top of the third inning. With the score being 2-0 after three complete innings, the Lady Eagles added two additional runs to make the score 4-0 at the end of four innings. Hinds continued to score with one run in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth to bring the score to 7-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The hosts scored once in the bottom of the sixth and once in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady Eagles Prevailed to a 7-2 victory over BRCC.
Taylor Nelson was dominate in the first game going 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and a homerun. Additionally,
Destiny Crosby registered multiple hits in the contest with one hit being a triple.
Sara Long and
Melissa Lopera each had a double in the game. In the circle,
Kyleigh Forsyth pitched a complete game and gave up no earned runs in the game to grab her second win in the circle.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the day, the teams were set up for a pitcher's duel as neither team scored through the first three innings of play. The Lady Eagles scored first in the top of the fourth inning, but the Lady Bears evened the score in the bottom half of the frame. The Lady Eagles scored an additional run to regain the lead in the top of the fifth, but BRCC rallied late to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 3-2 victory.
Taylor Nelson hit another homerun on the day, while
Emily Vines and
Destiny Crosby had multiple hits in the contest.
Lily Ochodnicky had one hit, which was a triple and scored one run in the game.
Emily Vines got the start in the circle and only allowed five hits in the loss.
UP NEXT
The Lady Eagles will return to action for their Home Opener against Baton Rouge CC at René T. Warren Field. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2 PM.
