SENATOBIA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team picked up a massive sweep over #11 Northwest Mississippi Community College last Friday in MACCC play. Hinds grabbed a 6-3 win in the first game of the doubleheader and took the 8-4 victory in the nightcap.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Eagles got the started in the top of the second inning after an
Emily Vines RBI-single to centerfield to make the score 1-0 after two complete.
Sara Long hit a bases clearing double in the gap to give Hinds the 4-0 advantage going into the fourth inning. The Rangers scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Hinds still led 4-1.
Mackenzie Kelly hit a 2-RBI double to center in the top of the sixth inning to give the Lady Eagles the 6-1 lead. In the bottom half of the sixth, Northwest hit a two-run homer to make the score 6-3 going into the final frame. The Lady Eagles went on to grab the 6-3 victory over #11 NWCC in game one of the doubleheader.
Taylor Nelson,
Sara Long, and
Emily Vines all had two hits in the contest. As a team, the Lady Eagles racked up 10 hits, scored six RBI, and scored six runs. In the circle,
Kyleigh Forsyth went the distance for the Lady Eagles and picked up the win.
In the nightcap,
Ellie Williamson opened the scoring in the game after she belted a three-run homer to left field in the top of third inning to give the Lady Eagles the 3-0 advantage.
Destiny Crosby grabbed an RBI in the fourth to extend the lady Eagles lead to 4-0. The hosts scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3 after five complete innings. After a scoreless sixth inning, Hinds plated four runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 8-3. The Rangers made one final push in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Lady Eagles held strong to earn the doubleheader sweep and the game two victory 8-4.
Destiny Crosby posted three hits in the contest, while
Alexis Moran,
Taylor Nelson, and
Ellie Williamson grabbed a couple of hits apiece. Additionally, Ellie picked up a team-high 5 RBI in the game.
Emily Vines got the start in the circle for Hinds and went 4.0 innings.
Emily Vicknair came in relief and struck out two batters through three innings.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, April 3 against Meridian CC in Meridian, MS in MACCC play. First pitch of the doubleheader will begin at 3 PM.
