Eagles Sweep Itawamba on Sophomore Day

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up a pair of conference wins on Friday, taking down Itawamba 11-1 and 10-4 at Joe G. Moss Field. 
 
The Indians scored first in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles responded for three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-1 lead after one inning of play. Hinds remained hot and erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the commanding 11-1 lead after two innings of play. The score remained the same for the remainder of the contest to get the 11-1 run-rule victory over the Indians.
 
Thomas Marsala led the Eagles going 3-for-4 from the plate. Ashton Johnson, Cameron Hill, Tyler Janos, and Brice Ainsworth all had two hits apiece in the contest. Hill had the most RBI with four and a homerun. Dawson Muenzenmay got the start and the win on the mound for the Eagles as he pitched five innings, two hits, one earned run, and five strikeouts. Sophomores Tristan Wilbanks and Austin Robinson came in relief and pitched an inning apiece. As a team, the Eagles scored 11 runs, 13 hits, and committed two errors in the game. 
 
In the nightcap, the visitors got on the board first once again, but the Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the first to give Hinds the 2-1 advantage after one inning. The Eagles continued to score with five runs in the second and two runs in the third to extend their lead to 9-1 after three complete innings. The Indians picked up two runs in the fourth and the Eagles scored one to bring the score to 10-3 going into the fifth. The next two innings was scoreless until ICC scored the final run of the game in the top of the seventh, but the Eagles went on to take the 10-4 victory and earn the sweep. 
 
Ashton Johnson went 3-for-3 from the plate and scored two runs in the contest. Cameron led the Eagles once again with four RBI. Brice Ainsworth and Kette Stavely finished the game with a couple of hits apiece. Brady Boykin got the start and win on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings and struck out six batters. Benji Webb came in relief and pitched 0.2 innings and Grant Holmes pitched the final innings for the Eagles. 
 
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, April 24th against Copiah Lincoln Community College in Wesson. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM.
