Cameron Hill Ties HR Record During the BBCOR Era in Regular Season Finale with Holmes

GOODMAN, Miss. –  The Hinds Community College baseball team picked up a split in their final doubleheader of the regular season against Holmes CC in Goodman. The Bulldogs took game one of the doubleheader by a final score of 13-12, however the Eagles bounced back in game two with a 18-16 victory over the Bulldogs in extra innings. In the final game of the day, Cameron Hill tied Justin Williams and Dylan Coleman for the program record for home runs in the BBCOR era with 14. 

In game one of the doubleheader, Holmes got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as they took the 3-0 advantage. After a scoreless second inning, the Eagles plated five runs to take the 5-3 lead. The Bulldogs got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but Hinds still led 5-4 going into the fourth. The Eagles tacked on four more runs in the top of the fifth to take the commanding 9-4 lead after five innings. Holmes put up a seven spot in the sixth inning to regain the lead. The Eagles did not go down without a fight scoring three runs in the seventh as they took the lead again. Holmes scratched across two runs in the eighth to take the 13-12 victory over the Eagles. 

Graham Busbea led the Eagles in the contest with three hits with two of them being homeruns. Additionally, he drove in four runs and scored three times. Ashton Johnson and Tyler Janos were the other two Eagles to have multiple hits in the game. Dawson Muenzenmay got the start on the mound and went five innings. Carson Reed, Everett Thompson, Ford McDaniel, and Alex McGarrh came in relief. McDaniel took the loss in the game on the bump.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles got off to a hot start with five runs in the top of the first inning. Holmes responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs, but the Eagles held the 5-3 advantage after one inning. Hinds tacked on four more runs in the top of the second to take the 9-3 lead going into the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs grabbed three runs back to make the score 9-6 after two innings of play. Hinds picked up two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 11-6 lead. The Bulldogs scored three in the fourth and six in the fifth to bring the score to 15-11 after five complete innings. The Eagles bats came alive in the top of the sixth scoring five runs to regain the lead. Holmes scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to force the game to go into extras with a score of 16-16. After a scoreless eighth inning, the Eagles drove in two runs to give Hinds the 18-16 victory in the ninth inning to split with the Bulldogs. 

Cameron Hill led the Eagles in game two going 4-for-6 from the plate with six RBI and four runs scored. Brice Ainsworth had a trio of hits, while Ashton Johnson, Tyler Janos, Graham Busbea all had a couple of hits in the contest. Brady Boykin got the start on the mound for Hinds and took the no-decision. Tristan Wilbanks came in relief and Cole Burton pitched the rest of the game and earned the win on the mound. 

The Eagles will return to action against Northwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, May 3rd for the first game of the Region XXIII best of three play-in series. First pitch of game one is set for 6 PM in Senatobia.
