Hinds Football Falls at Home to Itawamba on Sophomore Night

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College football team fell in the season opener 10-7 at Joe Renfroe Stadium against the Itawamba CC Indians on Sophomore Night 

Hinds opened the scoring when Nassir Donohoo found Ja'Montae Wallace for the first touchdown of the 2024 season. At the 10:34 mark of the second quarter, the Indians found the endzone to tie the ballgame at 7-7. Going into the halftime break the score remained 7-7.

The second half of the game was a test of endurance and strategy. Hinds' defense fought hard to contain Itawamba's offense, with several key stops to keep the game within reach. The Indians grabbed a 19-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to take the lead. With the game approaching the final minutes, Hinds gave up an interception in the endzone for a touchback that killed the momentum. Itawamba went on to take the 10-7 victory over Hinds on Sophomore Night. 

On offense for Hinds, Nassir Donohoo finished the contest going 12-for-23 through the air for 163 passing yards and one touchdown pass. Julius led the rushing attack with 25 yards. Ja'Montae Wallace led the receiving corps with four receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown. 

On the defensive side of the ball, Walter Owens, Jaylen McCroy, William Harry, and Alton Tarber finished the contest with six total tackles. William Harry along with Preston Clendenin, and Devarrick each registered a tackle for loss in the hard-fought loss.

Hinds will return to action next Thursday, September 5 against the East Mississippi CC Lions at Gene Murphy Field at Joe Renfroe Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM and will be Military and First Responders Night.
