Hinds Football Falls on the Road at MDCC

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Football team fell 23-7 to Mississippi Delta Community College at Jim Randall Stadium. 
 
The Eagles had an opportunity to get onto the scoreboard first early in the opening quarter, but the 47-yard field came up short as the Eagles and Trojans remained tied. Both defenses played well for the remainder of the first quarter, but MDCC got inside the 5-yard line as the horn blew to end the first quarter.
 
The Trojans got on the board on the first play of the second quarter as their running back punched one in to bring the score to 6-0 after a missed PAT. MDCC found the endzone again on their next possession as Troy Griffin found Daniel Hall in the endzone to extend their lead to 13-0. Just before the halftime break, the Trojans put three more points on the board to lead 16-0 going into the break.
 
Jabari Watson connected with Ja'Montae Wallace in the endzone for a 11-yard touchdown pass to put Hinds on the board. Tanner Hollingsworth connected on the PAT to bring the score to 16-7. For the remainder of the third quarter the score remained the same. 
 
The Eagles pushed the ball into the opponent's territory multiple times but missed on the opportunities. Quarterback Troy Griffin grabbed was a part of the third touchdown of the contest with 2:11 on the clock to seal the deal. The Eagles went fell 23-7 in the game and moved the 0-4 on the season.
 
Offensively, Jabari Watson led the passing attack going 6-for-16 for 48 yards and one touchdown. Jamarion Johnson finished the contest with nine rushes for 37 yards for an average of 4.1 per rush. 
 
Defensively, William Harry led the way for the Eagles registering 10 total tackles, while Tommy Kelly Jr. picked up eight total tackles in the contest. Tanner Hollingsworth was in charge of the punting for the Eagles and averaged 33 yards on five punts.
 
Hinds will return to action on Thursday, September 26 against East Central Community College in the friendly confines of Gene Murphy Field at Joe Renfroe Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM
