Hinds Baseball Outslugs Northwest 18-17 in DH Split

RAYMOND – The Hinds Community College Baseball team exploded for a season high 24 hits in the game, including eight players with multiple hits, while Aiden Swales earned the game-winning sacrifice fly to give Hinds the 18-17 victory in game one of the doubleheader on Friday at Joe G. Moss Field. 

Northwest got the scoring started in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to homeruns by Aiden Swales and Takorre Clowers. The Rangers then scored five runs in the second and six runs in the third to take the 12-4 advantage. The Eagles plated a run in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 14-6.

Northwest tacked on two more runs in the fourth, but Kette Stavely hit a solo shot to left field to cut into the lead. After a scoreless fifth inning for NWCC, Hinds put up a six spot the cut the lead to 14-12. The Eagles regained the lead 15-14 in the bottom of the seven after singles by Brody Breithaupt and RJ Brown. In the top of the ninth inning, Northwest went back into the lead after a couple of sacrifice flies and an error that scored a run. In the bottom of the ninth inning after two walks Aiden Swales got the game winning sac fly to give Hinds the 18-17 victory. 

Brody Breithaupt and Aiden Swales each collected four hits in six plate appearances for the Eagles. Cade Fairley, Kette Stavely, Takorre Clowers, Kaleb Lipscomb, and RJ Brown each posted multiple hits in the contest. As a team, the Eagles pilled up nine walks, 18 runs, and 24 hits in the win over Northwest. 

Carson Reed got the start on the mound for the Eagles and went 2.1 innings and gave up eight hits before Ford McDaniel took over on the mound and pitched 0.2 innings. Ethan Ross then came in and faced 14 batters and struck out three batters. Charles Chisolm was the next man up and grabbed three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitch. Kylan Landers pitched the final inning for the Eagles and earned the victory on the mound for Hinds. 

Hinds will return to action on Tuesday, April 1st against #4 East Central CC for a home doubleheader at Joe G. Moss Field. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3 PM.
