Dean Liles to be Inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame

RAYMOND, Miss. – Dean Liles will be inducted into the Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame on April 22. The ceremony will begin at 6 PM at the Muse Center on the Rankin campus in Pearl. One honoree from each MACCC school will be inducted that evening.

A Raymond native, Dean Liles attended Raymond Elementary and Raymond High School. His excellence in high school athletics is reflected in that he lettered in football and basketball from the seventh through 12thgrades, in track in the 11th and 12th grades (high jump and mile run) and in baseball in the 10th grade (the only year the school had a team).
Liles served as football team captain in grades 9 through 11, but his real talent was on the hardwood, where he was All-District and made numerous All-Tournament teams. He was also the leading scorer and rebounder on the team. He graduated with honors from Raymond High School in 1959 before coming to Hinds.

At Hinds Junior College, Liles concentrated on basketball and academics, and to say he was successful in both is an understatement. He lettered in basketball in 1959-1961, was the leading scorer on the 1960-1961 team, and made All-State in 1961. On Jan. 7, 1961, Liles set a single-game scoring record when he scored 51 points in a game.

He was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was selected as Sophomore of the Week by the school paper. Dean also was a member of the Men's Recreational Association, Circle K Club, and the Baptist Student Union. He was a member and a leader in many campus activities at Hinds.

He graduated with honors from HJC in 1961 and went on to Mississippi College, where he graduated with honors in 1963. He graduated from Louisiana State University with his master's degree in 1964. Dean Liles was inducted into the Hinds Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and was named the Alumnus of the Year in 2013.

Dean resides in Plano, Texas. His late wife, Rebecca, who was also a Hinds graduate, passed away in July 2009. Dean and Rebecca have two children, Brad Liles and Lori Hall, who also live in Plano. They have four grandchildren: Ashley Liles, Matthew Liles, Mark Liles, and Grace Hall.
