Hinds Dominates in 48-0 Victory Over MDCC on Sophomore Night

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College football team delivered a commanding performance on Sophomore Night, earning a dominant 48-0 shutout victory. With the win, Hinds improves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

The fireworks began late in the first quarter. With just 2:45 remaining, quarterback Jaylon Ruffin connected with Kiandre Terry for a 9-yard touchdown strike, capping off a 12-play, 94-yard drive. Wyatt Long's extra point made it 7–0, and the Eagles were just getting started.
The second quarter saw an explosion of scoring from Hinds. Just over a minute in, Ruffin launched a 66-yard bomb to Braishun Forbes, who sprinted down the sideline for the Eagles' second touchdown. Moments later, Ruffin struck again, this time finding Detraun Brown for a 5-yard score to complete a 7-play, 50-yard drive.

As if that weren't enough, just 20 seconds later, Caleb Bryant scooped up a fumble and took it to the endzone for the touchdown to take the commanding 34-0 lead into halftime. The dominance continued in the second half. 

Early in the third quarter, BJ Blake broke loose for a 44-yard touchdown run on just the second play of the drive. The Eagles weren't done yet. In the fourth quarter, Geron Johnson punched in a 1-yard touchdown to seal the win after a grinding 13-play, 63-yard drive that chewed over six minutes off the clock. Hinds continued to dominate on defense to bring the final score to 48-0.

The offense was firing on all cylinders in their 48-0 victory, racking up 486 total yards behind a balanced and explosive attack. Quarterback Jaylon Ruffin led the way through the air, completing 12 of 25 passes for 227 yards and four touchdowns, including a 66-yard strike to Braishun Forbes. Raheem Vance added 12 passing yards in relief.

On the ground, the Eagles dominated with 247 rushing yards on 43 attempts. Julius Bradley paced the run game with 87 yards on nine carries, averaging an impressive 9.7 yards per carry. BJ Blake added 49 yards and a touchdown on just four carries. Geron Johnson contributed 69 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, showcasing the team's depth at running back.

The receiving corps was equally effective, with eight different players recording receptions. Kiandre Terry led with 3 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown, while Forbes followed closely with 76 yards and a score on just 2 receptions. Detraun Brown and BJ Blake also caught touchdown passes in the rout.

The Hinds' defense delivered a dominant performance, holding their opponent scoreless and making plays across the board. Jermar McCarter led the way with 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble, while Zay Lowery and Clifton Jobe each added a tackle for loss.

Jeremiah James and Kaleb Washington both recorded interceptions, with Washington returning his for 19 yards. Caleb Bryant recovered a fumble and returned it 38 yards, and Micah Hampton added a fumble recovery of his own. In total, 13 players had at least two tackles, highlighting a complete and disciplined effort from the entire defensive unit.

On Special Teams, Ryan Harvey punted three times for 88 yards and averaged 50.5 yards on eight kickoffs. DJ Hairston led punt returns with 57 yards, while Keannan Palmer had a 26-yard interception return. Kaleb Washington added 19 return yards. Wyatt Long made 6 of 7 PATs, with no field goals attempted.

Hinds will return to action on Thursday, September 25 when they travel to Decatur to take on the East Central Community College Warriors. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
