MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Hinds Community College women's soccer team earned its first conference victory of the season on Thursday, defeating Meridian Community College 2-0 on the road.
The Eagles turned in a strong defensive performance from start to finish, holding Meridian scoreless while goalkeeper Claire Garcia recorded four saves across 90 minutes to secure the clean sheet.
Hinds broke through in the second half when Torri Keen converted a penalty kick in the 70th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Keen struck again just seven minutes later, finding the back of the net off a corner kick from Lily Upton then assisted by Brooklyn Henley to extend the lead to 2-0.
Keen finished the match with two goals on two scoring opportunities, accounting for all of Hinds' goals in the victory.
The Eagles' defense continued to hold strong down the stretch, with Garcia making four saves to preserve the shutout. Meridian finished with six shots, including four on goal, but could not find a way past the Hinds goalkeeper.
Hinds will return to action on Tuesday, October 6th against Itawamba Community College in Raymond. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM.
