Hinds Track & Field Makes Noise at the UAB Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Hinds Community College Track and Field teams delivered a strong all-around performance at the UAB Invitational on February 7, showcasing wins, national rankings, personal bests, and depth across multiple event groups while competing against Division I programs.

The highlight of the meet came from the women's 4×400-meter relay, as Angel Cuberbatch, Akaree Roberts, Queen Usunobun, and Kylie Norbit turned in a standout performance. The quartet posted a time of 3:45.08 to claim first place overall against Division I competition, moving the group to No. 1 in the NJCAA national rankings. The performance stands as one of the top relay marks in the country this season.

Usunobun also impressed individually, controlling the women's 400 meters with a winning time of 54.62 to continue her run as one of the top quarter-milers in the nation.

The sprint group put together a strong showing throughout the meet. In the men's 60 meters, Curtis Coleman captured first place with a time of 6.65, setting a new Vulcan Facility Record. Teammate Raheem Pinnock followed closely behind, finishing second in 6.70. On the women's side, Caneilia Hope placed third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.49, which ranks No. 7 nationally in the NJCAA.

Hinds showed impressive depth in the men's 200 meters, placing four athletes among the top performers in a competitive field. Jayval Wright led the way with a winning time of 21.22, ranking No. 9 nationally. Pinnock ran a personal-best 21.32 to move to No. 13 in the NJCAA, while Robert Turner followed with a 21.37 to rank No. 15. Craig Carson added valuable points and depth with a time of 21.51.

The men's 4×400-meter relay of Deshuan Gordon, Jayval Wright, Craig Carson, and Robert Turner also delivered a solid performance, finishing third overall with a time of 3:15.38 against Division I competition. The relay now sits at No. 11 in the NJCAA national rankings.

Hinds Track and Field will be back in action on February 14 at the Samford Bulldog Invitational.
