RUSTON, La. – The Hinds Community College Track and Field teams turned in a strong all-around performance this past weekend at the Jim Mize Invitational, highlighted by multiple top finishes.
On the women's side,
Caneilia Hope led the charge with an impressive victory in the 100 meters, clocking an 11.27 to take first place. Hope also doubled back in the 200 meters, where she earned a second-place finish with a time of 23.56, capping off a standout day on the track.
Jaycie Wallace and
Alana McGowan added depth in the 100 meters, finishing ninth and 15th, respectively, while Wallace later placed 10th in the 200 meters. Kylie Norbert and
Morgan Bradley both delivered solid performances in the 200 meters as well, finishing fourth and sixth.
In the hurdles,
Mikenzey Hodges-Woods continued her dominant season with a first-place finish in the 100m hurdles (13.80). She also placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.67
Seanna-gaye Leslie added a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles to round out a strong showing in the event group.
The women's 400 meters saw
Morgan Bradley lead the way with a fifth-place finish (57.28), followed by Kylie Norbert in eighth and
Shaniyah Walker in 10th.
On the men's side, Matthew Sullivan delivered a first-place finish in the 110m hurdles, crossing the line in 13.49 to highlight the day. In the 400m hurdles, Nathanael Abrahams and Da'Jarian Leonard posted podium-worthy performances, finishing third and fourth with times of 53.96 and 54.01.
Shadane Smith paced Hinds in the 400 meters with a ninth-place finish (48.74), while Vernon Green III and Marquis Norwood added depth in the event.
In middle-distance action, Christian Washington turned in a solid performance in the 800 meters, finishing seventh with a time of 2:02.41.
In the field events, Anthony Cooley recorded a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters.
Hinds Track & Field will return to action on Saturday, April 25
th at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge.
