Andrew Gunn, the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Eligibility at Hinds CC, originally joined Hinds Athletics in 2017 but moved into his new full-time role in June of 2022. He is charged with helping keep Hinds Athletics operating within the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Mississippi Athletic Community College Conference (MACCC). His duties also include interpreting and monitoring national and conference regulations and coordinating rules education among student-athletes, coaches, administrators and alumni. He also aids in fundraising, game day operations and day to day operations within the Athletics Department. Gunn also serves as a member of the Title IX team at Hinds.
In the fall of 2017, Andrew Gunn joined the baseball team at Hinds under former head coach Sam Temple. During his 5 seasons as coach, his coaching responsibilities included director of operations, coaching outfielders, left-handed pitchers coach, both first and third base coach and assisted with hitting. Gunn saw 51 Eagles pursue their careers at the four-year level ranging from all levels of the NCAA to the NAIA.
Before Gunn came to Hinds, he spent a season at Clinton High School. At CHS he served Eddie Lofton as an assistant and taught government and social studies courses. Gunn followed Lofton to Biloxi the next year where he specialized in developing the outfield and serving as the pitching coach. He was selected to back-to-back All-star Showcase West Teams as a coach in 2016 and 2017, winning both games.
In high school, Gunn played for Coach Lofton at Clinton High School, graduating in 2010, where he earned several team awards throughout his career and was selected to the first team all-district in 2010. He was an important member of the 2008 Clinton Arrow team that reached the north state title series for the first time in 10 years.Â
After his high school campaign, he pursued his collegiate baseball career at Hinds during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, playing under Coach Temple and now current head coach Dan Rives, who served as the assistant at the time. Gunn was a part of the 2012 state championship team leading the team with bullpen appearances and earning the win during the state title game. Educationally, Gunn graduated from Hinds in 2012 with an associate of arts and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
After Hinds, Gunn attended Belhaven University from 2013 to 2014, where he pitched in relief for Hall of Fame Coach Hill Denso and set a single season record for appearances with 36. He aided the Blazers to hosting a NAIA Regional and a #8 ranking in the country. He graduated from Belhaven with a bachelor of science in Sport Administration in 2014 and finished his masters in 2018 from the University of Southern Mississippi in Sport Management.Â
Gunn resides in Clinton with his wife Jessica and their 2 sons, Axel and Aiden, where they attend Morrison Heights Baptist Church.
