Chris Mattox has been with the Eagle football program since 2012. Mattox serves as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and running back's coach. 

Prior to becoming the receivers coach in 2018, Mattox served as the cornerbacks coach for two seasons. As the cornerbacks coach, Mattox saw two of his cornerbacks earn both Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) First Team All-State and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) First Team All-Region 23 honors.

Mattox, of Palm Harbor, Fla., graduated from Clearwater Central Catholic High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida before starting his coaching career in 2009 at Long Island University Post. Mattox then spent one year with the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy as the director of Football Operations.

In 2012, Mattox arrived at Hinds as the safeties coach before moving to Coahoma Community College, where he coached the defensive backs in 2013-14.

In 2015, he was the co-defensive coordinator at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. While at Coffeyville, Mattox coached Jamarcus King, the top junior college cornerback in 2015, and a defense that had seven National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I signees.

In 2017, Mattox helped coach an Eagle secondary that finished in the top 25 nationally for interceptions and interception return yards.

Mattox resides in Ridgeland with his wife, Devynn.
