Baseball splits non-conference and conference DH

The Hinds Community College baseball team stepped out-of-conference on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Itawamba Community College and coming away with a split of the doubleheader against the highly-ranked Indians.
 
Hinds (20-7 overall, 4-4 in the South) lost game one, 8-4, but rebounded to claim the second game, 6-2.
 
Beau Wallace of Vicksburg, a freshman infielder, had a hit, RBI and scored a run in the first game to pace the Hinds offense.
 
Austin Hartzog of Terry, a freshman pitcher, took the loss on the mound in his first appearance of the season.
 
Tyler Akins of Madison, a sophomore infielder/pitcher, had three hits in the second game to lead Hinds. His clutch two-RBI double in the sixth inning busted the game open.
 
Nathan Aultman of Mangham, La., a freshman pitcher, picked up the win in relief for the Eagles, improving his record to 4-1. The righty threw three scoreless innings in his stint.
 
Hinds traveled to Summit on Saturday to take on Southwest Community College, and like yesterday, came away with a split of the doubleheader.
 
The Eagles won game one, 9-4, before falling in the second game, 6-4.
 
Chris Jones of Mendenhall, a sophomore outfielder, had two hits in the first game, including a grand slam home run to pace the offense.
 
Carey Taylor of Brandon, a sophomore pitcher, threw five innings on the mound to pick up the win and improve his record to 5-0 on the season. The right-hander allowed only two runs in five innings.
 
Ryno Martin-nez of Vicksburg, a sophomore infielder, had two hits in the second game to lead the Eagles' bats.
 
Aultman took the loss on the mound in the second game, which was his first loss of the season.
 
Hinds returns to conference play on Saturday, hosting Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond.
