Eunice, La. - The Hinds Community College baseball team fell in the opening game of the Region XXIII tournament, 5-2, to Itawamba Community College on Thursday afternoon.

Hinds (34-17) will now fall into the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament hosted by Louisiana State University-Eunice. The Eagles will face the loser of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College-LSU Eunice contest to be played at 7 p.m. tonight.

Tyler Akins (Madison) led the Eagles at the plate by going 3-3 with one RBI on the afternoon. Hinds could only muster six hits in the opening game off ICC starter Ben Hudspeth, who improved to 11-0 on the season.

Alex Gunn (Clinton) threw a complete game for the Eagles, allowing only four earned runs and five hits, but could not get enough offensive support, and fell to 5-3 on the season.

Hinds will play Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon in an elimination game.  Host LSU-Eunice defeated MGCC Thursday night 10-0 in a run-ruled five inning game.
