Ben Dew (1993-1994) and Michael Myers (1994-1995), two former Hinds Community College football standouts and Vicksburg natives, have joined the Eagles coaching staff to coach on the defensive side of the ball.

“This is a great opportunity to bring both of these former outstanding players back,” said Hinds head football coach Gene Murphy. “They know what is expected in this program and they will play a big part in continuing the progress of restoring the tradition.”

Dew, who coached the offensive line at Hinds during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, returns to the Eagles staff after spending the past season as the defensive coordinator at Pelahatchie High School. He will head up the strength and conditioning program for the Eagles, who return a number of starters on the defensive side of the ball.

He also spent three seasons at Puckett High School, where he helped lead PHS to the 2006 and 2008 1A state championships. Dew has coached high school football in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Myers, a fourth round NFL draft pick in 1998 and 10-year veteran as a defensive lineman in the NFL, is in his first coaching stint after an illustrious playing career.

He transferred from Hinds to the University of Alabama, where he garnered first-team All-American honors for the Crimson Tide in 1996. Myers also earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American honors at Hinds in 1995.

Myers went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys (1998-2002), Cleveland Browns (2003-2004), Denver Broncos (2005-2006) and Cincinnati Bengals (2007-2008), finishing with 259 tackles, 15.5 sacks and one interception.
