Baseball to now host Pearl River on Sunday

The Hinds Community College baseball team currently sits at neutral with the Pearl River Community College Wildcats set to come to town on Sunday. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Saturday, but has now been moved to Sunday due to heavy rain set to move into the area on Friday and Saturday.

The 2 p.m. start time will remain the same and will still be played at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond.
 
The Eagles of Hinds split a two-game non-conference set on Tuesday and are now currently 11-11 overall and 2-2 in the South division. Hinds fell, 15-4, to Bossier Parish (La.) Community College in the first game on Tuesday before winning the nightcap, 9-1, over Holmes Community College.
 
Brian Mills (Magee) and Caleb Upton (Natchez) led the Eagles with two hits apiece in the win versus Holmes. Chase Cater (Rayville, La.) threw five shutout innings to earn the victory on the mound.
 
In the loss to Bossier Parish, it was Beau Wallace (Vicksburg) who led the charge on the offensive side, as he finished the game with a double and a triple. Clyde Kendrick (Vicksburg) took the loss on the mound in his first start of the season.
 
Hinds scored a critical home doubleheader sweep over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Saturday, defeating the Bulldogs 14-4 in game one and 9-8 in the finale.
 
Hunter Duvic (St. Francisville, La.) earned the win on the mound in the first game and was aided offensively by Connor Goodspeed (Madison), Toler Robinson (Pearl), Akiko Thompson (Clinton) and Wallace, who all had two hits apiece.
 
In the second game, it was Thompson and Upton who carried the Eagles offensively, as each churned out three hits apiece. Austin Hartzog (Terry) picked up the win on the hill in game two.
 
The Eagles opened South division play on Tuesday, March 12 on a somewhat sour note, dropping a doubleheader to Co-Lin Community College in Wesson. Hinds fell, 5-2, in game one before dropping the nightcap, 12-2.
 
Justin Smith (Florence) led the Eagles in game one with two hits, including an opposite field home run in the sixth inning. John Gault (Shreveport, La.) took the hard-luck loss on the mound in the opener.
 
In game two, Upton led Hinds on the offensive side with two hits. Kirk Thornton (Madison) took the loss on the mound.
